Astrophotographer Captures Stunning View of Lagoon and Trifid Nebulas

Greg Meyer's astrophotography showcases the vibrant Lagoon and Trifid Nebulas, highlighting their cosmic beauty.

The Trifid and Lagoon Nebulas, vibrant star-forming regions in the Milky Way, have been beautifully captured by astrophotographer Greg Meyer. These nebulas, located 4,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius, are popular among astronomers and photographers due to their brightness and unique structures. The Lagoon Nebula, stretching 100 light-years, dominates the lower part of the image, set against a dense starfield near the Milky Way's core. Its energetic stars shape interstellar clouds, creating a striking cosmic vista. The Trifid Nebula, in the upper right, features colossal dust lanes silhouetted against glowing gas. A bright light at the intersection of two dust lanes reveals young, massive stars, previously imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2004. Meyer captured this ancient light over 34 hours in May 2025 from Arizona, using a Sky-Watcher Esprit 80mm telescope and a Player One Poseidon M pro camera. He processed the images using Pixinsight and Adobe software.
