Family seeks thorough probe into fatal road accident in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district
GUWAHATI/SHILLONG, June 6: The family of 25-year-old Namrata Bora from Assam, who died in a road accident in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district, has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. Namrata succumbed to her injuries after the car she was traveling in was hit while overtaking a stationary truck early on Wednesday. Her father has filed a complaint at Dispur police station in Guwahati, seeking justice and expressing faith in the justice system. He has also appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure a proper inquiry. The accident occurred near Shangbangla area when the car, carrying six occupants, attempted to overtake a stationary truck. While Namrata died at Nongpoh civil hospital, other passengers sustained minor injuries. A social media video has surfaced, allegedly showing the car’s occupants, including the son of an Assam AIUDF MLA, who was reportedly driving. Meghalaya police were unavailable for comment on the discrepancies between the survivors’ statements and the initial police report.
