Brad Hogg Questions Shardul Thakur's Fitness Ahead of IND vs ENG 2025 Tests

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has raised concerns about Shardul Thakur's fitness for the upcoming India-England Test series.
Brad Hogg, the former Australian spinner, has expressed doubts about Shardul Thakur's fitness levels as India prepares for the five-Test series against England starting on June 20. Thakur, a pace-bowling all-rounder, was included in the Indian squad despite not playing a Test match since the 2023 South Africa tour. However, Hogg believes Thakur's ability to sustain himself over five Tests is questionable. Thakur has had an inconsistent Test career, securing 31 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 28.38. In an interview with RevSportz, Hogg stated, 'I love his all-round ability, but his fitness has let him down over his career. I don't think he's looked after himself, and I'm unsure if he can be relied upon in the lineup.' Hogg prefers Ravindra Jadeja, citing his batting depth, and suggests considering Nitish Kumar Reddy as an alternative. Thakur played three Tests during India's 2021/22 England tour, taking eight wickets in the drawn series. Hogg advised against depending on Thakur for all five Tests, suggesting his fitness might not withstand the demands. India's other seam-bowling options include Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep.
