Shedeur Sanders' Progress in Browns QB Competition

Shedeur Sanders' recent improvements and his standing in the Browns quarterback competition.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Shedeur Sanders has shown significant progress over the past two weeks in the Browns' training camp, narrowing the gap with the other quarterbacks in the competition. Despite a slow start in spring practices, Sanders has made strides with consistent completions, touchdown passes, and a better grasp of the offense. He remains the fourth-team quarterback but has kept himself in contention. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski noted, 'He’s done a good job in the last two weeks in really understanding the offense. He’s making good decisions and throwing accurate passes. He’s got a lot to learn, but he’s making progress.' Sanders, a fifth-round draft pick, faces tough competition from Deshaun Watson, P.J. Walker, and Josh Dobbs. While he started training camp with the fourth team, he recently began getting reps with the second team. 'I’m just trying to make the most of every opportunity I get,' Sanders said. 'I’m not really focused on where I am on the depth chart. I just want to keep improving every day.' Josh Dobbs has emerged as a dark horse, impressing in practices and showing leadership in the locker room. P.J. Walker, though inconsistent, has shown flashes of his ability but struggles with turnovers. Deshaun Watson, the clear starter, will miss the first 11 games due to suspension, making the backup role crucial. The Browns may keep two quarterbacks on the active roster and one on the practice squad, intensifying the competition among Dobbs, Walker, and Sanders. While Sanders' path to becoming the starter is long, his hard work and improvement are brightening his chances.
