Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad Provides Compensation to Family of Deceased Hussainsab Kalas
Minister Santosh Lad visits family, hands over Rs 5 lakh cheque; assures further assistance.
Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad, also in charge of Dharwad district, met the family of the late Hussainsab Kalas on Saturday, June 14, 2025. He presented them with a compensation cheque following the tragic incident where Kalas's body was found in a drain. The meeting was attended by MLA N.H. Konaraddi, Additional DC Geeta C.D., Assistant Commissioner Shalam Hussain, Hubballi tahsildar K.R. Patil, and other officials.
Hussainsab Kalas, 58, was swept away by an overflowing drain in Nekar Nagar, Hubballi, during heavy rains on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. He was on his motorcycle attempting to cross an inundated bridge when he lost control and fell into the drain. His pillion rider was rescued, but Kalas went missing. His body was recovered on Friday, June 13, 2025, after a two-day operation involving police, fire brigade, and municipal staff.
Minister Lad visited the family at their Beerband Oni residence in Hubballi, offering condolences and handing over the compensation order and cheque. The Rs 5 lakh compensation was announced by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. The family expressed gratitude for the government's prompt support during their grief.
Minister Lad assured the family of continued government support and hinted at possible further assistance. He also mentioned plans to prevent similar incidents in the future. MLA Konaraddi echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the government's commitment to providing relief and preventing disasters.
