Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday presented a government job appointment letter to Gulnaz Akhter, the wife of Adil Shah, a pony ride operator who was killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22. The appointment letter was handed over at the Shah family residence in Hapatnar, Pahalgam, Anantnag district.
During his visit, Sinha interacted with Adil Shah's family and local residents. He stated that the job offered to Gulnaz Akhter in the Fisheries Department is a gesture of gratitude for her husband's bravery. 'This appointment reflects our collective appreciation for Adil Shah's valour,' Sinha remarked.
The Lt Governor mentioned that the J&K government has already provided financial assistance to Shah's family. He assured the family of continued support and measures to ensure their dignity. Sinha also addressed the villagers' request for enhanced employment opportunities, pledging administrative action.
The appointment was made under the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, 2022, allowing the Lt Governor to appoint family members of civilians killed in terrorist incidents. This decision was made without requiring the usual educational qualifications.
