IIT Madras Students' Solar Car Set to Conquer Australian Challenge

Aagneya, the intelligent solar car developed by IIT Madras students, will compete in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025, showcasing cutting-edge technology amidst harsh Australian conditions.

Aagneya, an innovative solar-powered car crafted by students from IIT Madras, is preparing to traverse 3,000 kilometres across the Australian outback during the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025. This journey will test the car's mettle against extreme temperatures and gusty crosswinds. The vehicle, designed by the Agnirath team from the Centre for Innovation, employs real-time data analysis to optimize speed and energy use based on weather, solar exposure, and terrain. Team member Sairam J highlighted the car's lightweight carbon fibre frame and machine learning capabilities, which are the result of over 15,000 hours of development. The event, held biennially, attracts global teams to demonstrate their solar-powered innovations. IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti emphasized the need for resources to support such projects, noting the institute's robust track record in fostering startups and innovation. The Agnirath team has grown from six to 38 members, underscoring the institute's vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.
