A newlywed couple from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district has gone missing after their car fell into the Teesta river in Sikkim during their honeymoon.
A newly married couple from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh and Ankita Singh, who tied the knot on May 5, embarked on their honeymoon to Sikkim on May 24. Tragically, their blissful trip turned into a nightmare when their car skidded off the road and plunged 1,000 feet into the Teesta river in Mangan district on the evening of May 29. The accident occurred near Munsithang along the Lachen-Lachung highway. Among the nine other passengers, one died, two were injured, and eight remain missing. The driver, Passang Denu Sherpa, lost his life on the spot. Two survivors, Swayam Supratim Nayak and Sairaj Jena from Odisha, were rescued the night of the accident. Kaushalendra's father, Sher Bahadur Singh, is in Sikkim searching for his son and daughter-in-law. In a heartfelt video appeal, he urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to request Sikkim's Chief Minister to expedite the rescue operations. "I will not return home until I find them," he said, adding that it has been eight days of relentless searching. Rescue operations are being conducted by multiple agencies, including the NDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, and the police. However, bad weather is hampering their efforts. Among the missing are four tourists from Odisha and two from Tripura. - With inputs from Amitendra Srivastava
